Issaquah High School
PTSA General Membership Meeting
December 10, 2004
The meeting was called
to order at 10:33 am by Nancy Campi in the home of Paula Phelps.
Secretary’s Report:
The minutes were
accepted as corrected for the November General Membership Meeting.
Treasurer’s Report:
Mary Lou Pauly
reported for Karen May, treasurer, that cash on hand as of 11/27/04 was
$47,452.24.
President’s Report:
Mary Lou Pauly
acknowledged Paula Phelps for hosting the meeting at her home; Jo-Ellen
Smith for the Quarterly Student Awards Breakfast on December 2nd
honoring 42 students; Marianne Kersten and Karen May for their additional
Pass the Hat mailing; Jiff Searing for the winter SAT prep classes and mock
SAT; Susan Hegedus for her work on the website and meeting all the
deadlines; and a general acknowledgement to everyone on the board for all
they do for IHS.
PTSA Council
Report:
Nancy Campi reported
that they met yesterday and a report will be emailed.
The bell time
committee is looking for feedback by January to move onto the budget
committee. Information is on the school website and a contact list will be
sent by email.
Focus Day in Olympia
will be February 17th and a bus is being organized to go.
Deborah Parsons is the contact person if anyone is interested in going.
The Issaquah School
Board and superintendent are shifting the way they are organized to try to
establish better relationships, communication and accountability with
parents, administration and the community. There will be a Work Study
Meeting on January 5th from 6-9 pm.
Site Council Report
Thereasa Robinson
reported that Diversity Week is coming up and students are putting a lot of
work into it.
Principal’s Report:
Paula Phelps was at a
meeting recently with all ISD principals and was reminded that she really
appreciates what IHS PTSA does especially how we recognize students in many
ways.
She acknowledged that
the Quarterly Student Awards Breakfast was outstanding.
On February 3rd
there will be an Honors/Advanced Placement Class information session to
inform parents about the classes. All parents are encouraged to learn about
the classes and that they are available to all students interested in
attempting an academically challenging class, as preparation for post
secondary study. It will be called “High School Planning Night.” It will
be for parents and will include information on the amount of homework,
number of pages of required reading, big projects, etc. required for
advanced classes and how they are different from regular classes.
Students Opposing
Suicide is a new student formed club. They have an advisor and are getting
training.

Committee Reports:
Reflections:
Elizabeth Swan
reported that there were only 8 entries for Reflections this year but all
students were recognized for their entry. She would like to try to get more
entries next year.
Parent Ed:
Nancy Campi reported
that there is a lot of parent ed information on the website right now.
February 8th there will be a Drug Awareness parent ed meeting.
Unfinished
Business:
Nancy Campi reported
that funds requests will be sent out before the January meeting for people
to consider. Two requests have been received to date.
Attendees were asked
for nominations for the Nominating Committee. Danielle Tilden was
recommended. Any other nominations should be emailed to Nancy or Mary Lou
prior to the next meeting.
Next Meeting:
Claudia from the
Career Center will be coming to the January meeting to answer questions.
Questions can be emailed to Mary Lou re: college planning, etc, prior to the
meeting.

The meeting was
adjourned at 11:25 am. The next meeting will be January 14th in
the library. The website newsletter deadline is January 12th.
