IHS Spelling Bee: IHS brings back memories of elementary school spelling bees by hosting their own Bee. Come support the best spellers at IHS as they battle for a spot on the school team to compete at the Issaquah Rotary Spelling Bee in May.

Mark your calendar for the IHS Auction: Issaquah High School’s Associated Student Body is holding an Auction Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:00 pm in the Issaquah High School Commons.  All proceeds from the auction will go to the Issaquah Associated Student Body which helps fund student sports, clubs and activities.  Come and enjoy a fun evening of food and bidding!

Calling for Kids: The Issaquah School Foundation’s annual Calling for Kids Campaign is underway. All proceeds will provide strategic training opportunities for teachers at all schools—one of the most important ways to increase student achievement. The Foundation’s website has specific information about GLAD, the training program the campaign is supporting, including a video with teachers and parents explaining how GLAD has positively impacted their students. Community members can donate now or when students call on April 1 and 2.

The District Grind:  Superintendent Rasmussen wants to hear from you! Join him at the Administration Building in April or May for a cup of coffee and an informal chat about his first nine months in Issaquah and the District’s goal to prepare each student to be successful in their post-graduation pursuits.

The Boundary Review Committee met last week. The large group formed a decision-making process and heard information about the link between student enrollment and school resources. Small groups looked at data and continued to hone suggestions for potential boundaries. The next meeting is Wednesday, April 2. Everyone is invited to attend. Meeting information, minutes, input opportunities, and a committee roster are online.

Incredible opportunity alert for high-school females: Are you interested in an all-expense-paid exchange to Morocco this summer? This opportunity—sponsored by the American Moroccan International Exchange (AMIE) in partnership with the City of Issaquah—is a chance to forge peace, understanding, and new relationships with teens on the other side of the world (and to theatrically say, "Here's looking at you, kid," while in Casablanca).

Student Highlights

Congratulations to Chelsea Poppe on her 1st place finish in state at the English Speaking Union Branch 2008 Shakespearean Competition. Chelsea competed against other students from around the state on March 2nd at the Frye Art Museum Seattle and won first place which included a $500 prize and an all expense paid trip to New York to compete for the national title in April. We want to wish Chelsea luck in New York and congratulate her on this great accomplishment!

Congratulations to the Drill and Pom Team.  They are the new State Champs in the Pom category.  The girls have done well at many competitions this year and received one 1st place trophy and two 3rd place trophies. After the last month of hard work, they pulled it together to receive the final 1st place award of the year.  Congratulations to the girls for an amazing year of hard work and wonderful memories.  We hope to keep the tradition going with our team for next year that will be lead by: Emily David, Tannos Seyedjavadi, Molly Bankson, Grace Mun, and Annie Wang.  Tryouts for the 2008-2009 team will begin after spring break.  Visit the drill website for details (http://www.ihs.issaquah.wednet.edu/Teachers/eixenberger/drill_team.htm)

Volunteers are being sought to fill next year's committee positions.  Opportunities are available for all with varying degrees of time commitment and specialized focus. Your skills and time are valued at IHS, especially by our students. Interested in more information on how to get involved at IHS? Please contact Marianne Kersten by April 30 at mkers10@comcast.net for further information. Current committee chairs seeking to continue on or change positions should respond as well.

Test proctors will be needed on a variety of dates in May for AP testing. Over 500 tests have been requested which is a large increase over past years so more volunteers are needed. Test dates include May 6-9, and 13-14. Please contact Camie Callahan at camiekanga@comcast.net or Jane Lee at janeandalvin@comcast.net with your interest.

Seniors and Senior Parents:

Door Prize Drawing

An early door prize drawing will be held on Friday, March 28, 2008.  The drawing pool will be the names of all seniors who are paid in full to attend the All Night Senior Party. Any senior who has not sent in the balance for the senior party, must do so by 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in order to be included in the door prize drawing. Questions?  Please contact Pam Ratcliffe, 425-941-8782, pamratcliffe@comcast.net
