Issaquah High School E-News

October 8th-October 13th

Information and Announcements

Thank you to PTSA for sponsoring the How to Help Your Child Succeed in High School and Beyond evening. Information from the evening will be posted on our website soon.

Math and Writing Labs are open every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-4:00 in the IHS library. Students can stop in to get extra help from Math and English teachers.

Safety: An effort to enhance safety and awareness, the Issaquah Police Department has issued a bulletin to inform community members that a sexual offender has moved into the downtown Issaquah area.

Bears: It’s not hibernation time yet! Our four-legged friends can be quite active in the fall. A citizen yesterday spotted a black bear and two cubs along Greenwood Boulevard on Squak Mountain. Bears have also been seen on the Sammamish Plateau and south-end of the district this month. Please remind your students about animal safety (including walking to school in groups) and manage your home habits to reduce wildlife encounters.

Student Highlights

Thank you to the Booster Club, Issaquah School District, and ASB. With the help of these three groups and the wrestling team, the Wrestlers will have new practice mats for their upcoming season.

This Thursday Issaquah High School will be providing two programs for our students about the risks of drinking and driving and drug use. Please review the e-news parent letter that explains the programs in more detail. If you do not want your student to participate, you may contact Cathie Foote at 837-6002.

IHS will also kick off Homecoming week with an assembly this Friday! Encourage your student to get involved and enjoy all that the week has to offer. There are many free events for students to attend in the evening and plenty of ways to dress up during the week and show some spirit.

Staff Spotlight

Karen Maguigad is enjoying her second year here at IHS after teaching in Pasco for eight years. Mrs. Maguigad teaches 10th and 11th grade English and Creative Writing. Mrs. Maguigad graduated from Eastern Washington University and completed a Masters Degree at Washington State University. A fun fact about Mrs. Maguigad is that IHS English teacher, Keri Dean, was her mentor teacher 10 years ago in Pasco. While not at school, Mrs. Maguigad enjoys spending time with her husband, Joel, and their 3 ½ year old daughter, Sapphire.

PTSA

Membership News.....

Thank you to the approximately 10 members who joined PTSA recently and contributed to Pass the Hat.  Our current membership total is 1290 and growing.  We are closing in on 100% membership!  There is still plenty of time to join and receive a directory and monthly enewsletter.

The next meeting of the IHS PTSA is Friday October 12 at 9:30 AM in the school library

With Apologies to Our PTA Members:

The table of contents links in last week’s IHS PTSA E-News got scrambled by my e-mail program, so that they directed you to the login screen for my e-mail program instead of into the contents of the newsletter.  This is not an attempt to steal accounts and passwords, as so many e-mails we get these days are.  These broken links only affected the table of contents of the newsletter. All links to other documents and websites within the newsletter work fine.  My apologies.  –Deborah Parsons (deborah@theparsons.com).

And, of course, it’s never too late to join the IHS PTSA!  Membership forms are available in the school office, or by visiting www.issaquahhighptsa.org and click on Membership.

Booster Club

The next Booster Club meeting is October 15th at 7:00 PM in the IHS library. The Boosters look forward to a presentation by the IHS Robotics Team.
