Hello, and welcome to the website of the Issaquah High School NJROTC Unit.

NJROTC stands for (Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp). From the Official NJROTC Website: "Our program mission is to instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment."

NJROTC carries with it no military obligation. To quote Retired Rear Admiral Rondeau in a recent bulletin found on the Great Lakes Navy Website:

"'Although most of the students won't actually join the military after graduating from high school,' Rondeau said, 'that's not really the point.'

"'This program provides focus,' she said. 'It helps you choose not just an answer, but the answer that is right for you. I have no expectation that you'll join the military - but I have a great expectation that you'll be great citizens.'

'ROTC is a class, just like algebra or English, but students learn more than just Navy topics. Once a week, students wear their uniforms to class. They learn drills, run PT and have uniform inspections. The lessons are taught by retired military. Although students are all in the Navy, NJROTC instructors can be from any of the sea services; the Navy, Coast Guard and Marines are all represented.'"
