You will be given one day for each day of excused absence to make up missed work. Tests will need to be made up after school. Please make advance arrangements with me. There will be no make-up work for unexcused absences. (See attendance below.)
Students are expected to be in the classroom when the bell rings and on the risers with music shortly thereafter. Students who come in after the bell will be marked Tardy. After 15 minutes, it will be considered an absence. This includes 0 hour Vocal Jazz, although there will not be a bell that rings at 6:30am. (I don't think the bells are awake yet!)
Passes will only be given for emergencies. If you must use the restroom, please do not interrupt the class by asking. Simply sign out when you leave and sign in when you come back. Please do not habitually miss class or plan poorly. Restroom use will be at your discretion. Please choose an appropriate moment in the class to leave.
Phones for students use are available in the office during lunch, before and after school and in between classes. Cell phones may also be used during those times. Cell phones seen or heard will be confiscated.
Attendance at all rehearsals and concerts is mandatory! The points you receive for participating are part of your grade. If you miss a rehearsal or concert, you will have an opportunity to make up points lost provided that your absence is excused. Let the director know within the first a 2 weeks of school if you have a conflict with a date. It is the instructor's decision whether the absence will be excused or unexcused. Members are responsible for keeping rehearsal and concert dates on their families' calendars at home to avoid conflicts.
Call time will be one hour before each show/performance/event. It is important that all members are on time. Being late will affect our ability to do sound check and receive final instructions, therefore it will also affect your participation point.
An important part of performance is set-up and tear-down. Each member of a performing group is expected to participate in set-up and tear-down. Members will not be dismissed until the entire group has completed the job. Performance credit will not be given if a student does not help or leaves without permission. Expect to stay for a half hour after each event.
If a student has an excused absence from a concert, points may be made up by doing a service for the choir. Our main area of need is in our choral library. Concerts are worth 100 points. Each hour of library work is worth 20 points. This can be done before or after school and may be broken into multiple days.
Extra credit: There is no extra credit in choir. Receiving an 'A' should be easy if:
