CBAs are Classroom Based Assignments that will be used to determine whether students have met the state standards in Social Studies.  We will be doing three separate CBAs this year, one dealing with Constitutional issues during the early period of the Republic, one dealing with Checks and Balance during the Civil War and one dealing with Foreign Policy during the 1950s and 1960s.
Constitutional Issue CBA:

Student assignment:

In a persuasive paper, you will:

  1. Explain the concept of Federalism and how it applies to the United States during the period 1789 to 1835.
  2. Evaluate various points of view on this issue.
  3. Explain how court cases and/or government policies affect the interpretation of rights involved with this issue using specific references.
  4. Develop a position on the issue that analyzes how individual rights and the common good can be balanced in relation to the issue.
  5. Provide accurate reasons to support your position.

Paper Requirements:

  1. 3-5 pages typed, Double Spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt Font, 1" margins.
  2. Must use your textbook and the CBA documents.
  3. May use Internet sources, Library, other sources.
  4. MLA format using in text citations.
  5. MLA Paper Format - Purdue University
  6. Makes explicit references within the text to four sources that provide relevant information/or support for the topic.
  7. Submitted to Turnitin.com by Midnight November 30th.

Checks and Balances CBA: Not assigned
Foreign Policy CBA:

In a paper, you will:

1.      investigate U.S. foreign policy in Vietnam and analyze why this policy was created and how it changed, and

2.      explain the costs and/or benefits of this foreign policy to various groups in the United States with specific examples, and

3.      develop a position on the overall effectiveness of the foreign policy with well-supported reasons.

Paper Requirements:

  1. 4-6 pages typed, Double Spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt Font, 1" margins.
  2. Must use your textbook and the CBA documents.
  3. May use Internet sources, Library, other sources.
  4. MLA format using in text citations.
  5. MLA Paper Format - Purdue University
  6. Makes explicit references within the text to four sources that provide relevant information/or support for the topic.
  7. APUS History submitted to Turnitin.com by Midnight May 25th.
  8. Regular US History submitted to Turnitin.com by Midnight June 8th.
