Counseling News (by grade level):  Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores

Seniors:

Senior Honors & Awards Night, Tuesday, May 20th:  IHS wants to recognize you and the college scholarships & awards you have received.  Tell us what you've been awarded!  Fill out the form and return it to Mrs. McGinnis in the Counseling Office, C-3 by May 7th.  Honors & Awards Form

Seniors, tell us your post high school plans!  Print out and return to counseling your Senior Exit Form.  Turn in your form to Mrs. McGinnis, in the Counseling Office, C3, so we know where to mail final transcript and you can get your graduation tickets!

Eighteen-year old students: 

  • All 18-year old students may register to vote.  Applications are available in the Counseling Office.
  • All 18-year old males must register with the selective service within 30 days of your 18th birthday at https://www.sss.gov/RegVer/wfRegistration.aspx

Post High School Guidance: Seniors who are still undecided about what to do after high school, should see their counselor and/or the career center to develop an action plan.

Scholarships: Seniors interested in searching for local scholarships to help pay for their college education should check online through the Career Center, Click on the College Scholarship Link. Seniors should be checking the site often as new listings are posted as they are received. The site has local scholarships posted along with information and applications, the College Scholarship Handbook lists local, state and national scholarships along with approximate monthly deadlines. Students interested in national and state scholarships should look at these websites:  www.fastweb.com or  www.finaid.org or  www.collegeboard.com 
 

Senior Timeline (countdown to graduation):

21 - April Third quarter report cards mailed home
23 - April Graduation Order Pick-Up during lunch 12:25-1:05 Announcements not picked up are in the Counseling Office-C3. Additional announcements are $1.25 each. Contact Counseling at 425-837-6140
May Honors & Awards form due to Counseling (C3)
May Tryouts for Baccalaureate
19 - May Deficiency reports for 4th quarter mailed home
20 - May Honors & Awards Dessert 6:30 pm in Commons
May Attendance appeal paperwork due to the attendance office
29-May Cap & Gown distribution - 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
June Senior Prom ticket sales
June Outstanding fees & fines must be paid. Students with fees, fines or detentions outstanding will not be issued graduation tickets, diploma or transcripts.
7 - June Senior Prom @ The EMP 8:00 - midnight
June Senior Exit Forms due: Turn in to Counseling Office Room C-3
June Graduation tickets can be picked up from Counselors (see Senior newsletter for requirements to be in good standing to receive your tickets)  Must bring completed Senior Exit Form

June High school diploma pickup from 10:30 am - 3:00 pm in Counseling (C3)
June High school diplomas may be picked up during regular business hours: 8:00-3:00 Monday-Friday in Counseling (C3)

Juniors:

CULMINATING PROJECT IS A STATE GRADUATION REQUIREMENT!  Juniors are required to complete and turn in all required works to the Career Center. Click on the Culminating Project link on the left to download the directions for your project.  The Career Center has access to the online work students are assigned and we will be checking for completion. 

Junior Credit Evaluations - This was a one-one-one meeting for every Junior with their counselor to talk about progress towards graduation.  Ask your student about what was discussed and review which graduation requirements and/or college entrance requirements must still be met.  Our Career Center can help develop a plan for students who are undecided about post high school plans. 

NCAA Athletics: Juniors, now is the time to register with the NCAA if you plan to participate in any level of NCAA athletics after high school.  The NCAA must determine eligibility with access to a student's grades and SAT scores.  Register through the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net
