Research Paper Reminders:

Use of Quotations, Paraphrases and Citations

 

_______ Cite six sources throughout the paper.

 

 

­_______ Vary sources within paragraphs. Don’t rely too heavily on 1-2 sources.

 

 

_______ Integrate quotations throughout the paper.

 

 

_______ Use at least one blocked quote (see MLA Style Guide for formatting).

 

 

_______ Cite all paraphrases, including statistics and facts. It is not always necessary to use direct quotations.

 

 

_______ Properly cite opinion/quotes from an indirect source, giving the full name of the original source in the sentence or in-text citation – a person (not the author) quoted within a source (qtd. in Brown 22 OR John Smith qtd. in Brown 22)

 

 

_______ If author’s name is provided in your lead-in, provide the cd’s page number from the book or article in the citation at the end of the sentence.

                        According to Williams, it is estimated that… (47).

 

 

_______ If no author’s name is given, distinctly abbreviate the title of source – following the same format as used on the Works Cited page

 

 

_______ If more than one author’s name is given for a source, include each author in the citation.
